Did you say “video”? Yes ! Video !!
These holidays, I happened to teach crochet to a few people, and god, how easier is it to SHOW something rather than to explain it with words? Sometimes, images are far better then a long story (especially for me who isn’t a native English speaker I have to say ^^). That’s why I’ve decided to bring that to the blog from now on :)
To begin with, I had a few questions about Tinycorn’s nose which is made by crocheting around a chain : how to crochet around a chain (in the next video) and how to avoid the tiny holes in the middle of the nose.
I’m going to answer to this second question : we don’t learn to crochet the right way !
Ahah, this might seam presumptuous said like that, but no, really, as many of you, I’ve learned to crochet in the middle of the little “v’s” of the chain… .
It does work ! Yet, the other way is far nicer ! It takes a bit of practice at first, but it’s not that hard !
Here is the solution : you have to crochet in the little bumps behind the v’s.
Now you’re happy I’ve talked about a “video” aren’t you? :D
Here it is, my first ever video tutorial ^^ :
I chose not to talk in my videos for 2 main reasons :
- I really don’t like the sound of my voice :D
- This blog is bilingual and it wasn’t practical for me at all (plus, I have a terrible English accent :p)
Please feel free to tell me what you think about the video, I love criticism as I’m convinced it’s the best way to improve oneself !
Meanwhile,
Say goodbye to the ugly little holes you get when you crochet in the back of a chain (which now looks exactly the same as the front)
And goodbye to that stiff chain, smaller then the rest of the work !
PS : Sorry for the long month without posting anything ! If you follow me on Facebook, you know that these holidays have been filled with family problems. Thanks a lot for all your nice messages, and see you very soon :)
I should first I would enjoy hearing an English Accent since all I hear is this American “twang” English. *smile* And I liked the video, it was clear and could see. Maybe closer to see exactly what stitch your going into. Love the idea of using the back of the chain to sc in.I will definitely try it in my next project and see how it does. Slow is good because people can then see over and over the repetition of the move. I crochet everyday, love to do it so I knew exactly what you were showing. Keep those videos coming and hey try a voice one…you may not like it but we all out here may just love it!!!!
Haha I made a basic English mistake here, what I meant was that my accent in English was terrible (as I’m a French speaker) so I guess I should have said : I have a terrible French accent :D
Thank you for your comments about the video, I’ll try and zoom in in the next video at least for the details !
I love this video. It is short but clearly shows a technique that looks very neat. Words were not necessary as I liked the way you pointed with the hook to count or show exactly which bit of the stitches to work in. I think this will solve the “untidiness” that sometimes comes from using starter chain the old way. Can’t wait to try it :)
Hi Kay !
Thank you so much for your feedback on this video ! Since I’ve discovered this technique I can’t do without it ! I hope you’ll like it too :)
I really like your “How to Crochet in a Chain Properly” video. I’ve crocheted for 60 years and I have never crocheted in a chain like your video shows. This is a fantastic video and I am definitely going to use your way. I love it!!!
I also wanted to say I would love to hear your French accent. I’m sure it is lovely.
Ahah I’ll think about it, and I’m really glad the video helps !!
Thank you SO much for posting this! I have always wondered what’s the best way to crochet in a chain. This is so much better than the way I was taught!
